The Messenger Company is an organization that sends what we would call ‘letters’ or “mail”, with small bands of men on horseback. The Messengers are well rested between trips so they can travel with minimal rest stops. Also, Messengers are usually fluent in several languages. They also carry or memorize certain phrases to explain themselves and establish diplomacy with they may encounter while en route. These phrases mainly explain the following:
-Messengers travel with few and small arms.
-Speed is their priority and they carry no coin and only the most common, essential gear for travel.
-They only ship messages and absolutely no parcels containing anything of value. (Though coin managers could send banking instructions, like a modern wire transfer.)
-The retrieval of the messages would not benefit a bandit or any other sort of waylayer.
Once delivered to the Messenger Office of the respective city/town/village, the roster of messages is checked and handed over to one or more delivery persons. Each local delivery person is responsible for all of their messages, by law.
